This crockpot burns food and the lid does not work properly. I prepared two recipes from the cookbook that came with the crock pot. It burned both of them! More on one side and good thing I was home because I think it would have started a fire.

The lock down lid on this product seems to be flawed. The 3rd time I used mine the hinged part of the lid broke off. If the lid doesn't seal well, then that ruins the whole way a slow cooker works. I've researched where to find a replacement hinge. The manufacturer has the whole lid listed but also as out of stock and without a listed price. Comments I've found put the price of the lid at $15 and with shipping the total becomes $26. Do I want to spend nearly the price of a new crock pot for a lid that might only last 3 times again? Let alone the hassle factor of checking back to the website often to see if it is in stock yet. Very disappointing.

Wow. After reading all the vehement reviews against this product, I feel compelled to report that I have had nothing but success with mine (bought it at Costco about 7 years ago.) I chose it because the ceramic bowl could be used as a serving dish for soups, stews, beans, etc. at our (large family) pot luck dinners. I use it frequently, especially during colder seasons. The lid fits perfectly, the ceramic oval container is large enough to accommodate a whole ham or turkey breast, and I like having the clear glass lid so I can keep an eye on the liquid without opening and letting heat out. I'm careful to adjust cooking times in relation to the volume of food in the pot. Rarely use the high setting for more than an hour, and only while I'm home. I handle it gently while cleaning (as one would any ceramic dish) and have not had any cracking. I don't know if the batch Costco was selling was made by a better manufacturer than the ones at Walmart (wouldn't be surprised), but I am very pleased with our 6 qt. Rival crock pot with removable ceramic serving dish. If you gamble on this one from Amazon (given these reviews), you know Amazon is great about replacement of faulty goods, so keep receipts, packaging, etc.

I've had this crockpot for several years now and have a few complaints.
1. Yes, I've had it burn food too - but I will take a bit of blame for not having enough liquid, and cooking for too long.
2. In my experience, you cannot successfully cook anything if the food raises into the decorative band area, which is higher than the external holder - meaning you loose about 2 quarts of usable cooking space.
3. My lid does not really rest evenly enough to create an effective seal.
4. The pot now has a hairline crack on the bottom which is all the way through the pot.
In conclusion - if you want it because it's a really beautiful crock pot, and are willing to make sure you do not make it too full, or too empty - it will work - but I'm currently looking to replace mine.

I don't think I've ever reviewed a product, but I need to express my dismay with this Crock Pot. My parents had a much older Crock Pot (no hinge, circular type) and it worked perfectly. I picked up this model thinking it'd be fine based off my previous experience with Rival products - boy was I wrong!
First impression: the lid didn't close all the way and allowed steam to escape as mentioned in other reviews. Coming back 6 hours later to find my pork roast slightly burnt and dry wasn't what I had in mind for a slow, steam cooker. I should have just returned it right then, but didn't.
After about the second or so use, the lid handle broke. It was weakened by the heat (I presume) and bent up until it broke when I tried to open it (of course, it was out of warranty by this point). I managed to make due by opening it with a fork. That was, of course, until the hinge piece in the back broke after about the fifth use. Oddly enough, with both connector pieces broken, the lid sits better (no steam escaping). Taking the lid off is --- interesting, though.
Overall impressions: Very cheaply made and probably won't buy a rival again. Customer support leaves something to be desired and there's no (in stock) replacement parts, not that you could completely replace what broke on mine through spare parts. Just throwing money away if you buy this.
